Stephen Wilbur has served in emergency department manager, educator and staff ED RN roles for over twenty years in central Iowa. His experience ranges from large tertiary centers to small critical access hospitals. He serves currently as Clinical Education Specialist for Emergency Services at the three hospitals of UnityPoint Des Moines: Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Methodist West Hospital. Iowa Methodist Medical Center is one of only two Level 1 Trauma Centers in the state of Iowa. Stephen graduated from the University of Iowa with a non-nursing degree after wrestling for 5 years on the NCAA Championship wrestling team coached by Dan Gable, the legendary Olympic and World Champion wrestler and coach. After about 10 years working in a variety of positions in human services, Stephen decided to pursue a diploma in nursing from Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. He participated in post-graduate coursework at the University of Minnesota and is currently finishing a master's degree in nursing education at Western Governors University. Stephen was a member of the team at UnityPoint Health Des Moines that developed and tested a malignant hyperthermia process outside of surgical services - MH SWAT Team - in 2018 and 2019.
