Bio
Tony Dawson is a highly regarded Senior Health Care Administrator. He is currently the Chief Clincial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Surgical Solutions a start up surgical company. Throughout his career in Clinical Operations and Patient Services, he has strategically led cross-functional teams across multiple specialties. His success lies in evaluating operations, strategic planning, and in leading the development/implementation of short- and long-range goals that enhance market share, performance, and revenue. Tony is valued for his ability to identify and implement the initiatives necessary for regulatory requirements, including Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, The Joint Commission, and Department of Health. His career with NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital spans 20-plus years; he most recently served as NYP's SVP Chief Operating Officer and, prior to that, as the VP Clinical Operations for Milstein Hospital and Heart Center. Tony led the initiatives that improved bottom-line performance, optimized the hospital's visibility and profitability, advanced innovation, restructured nursing leadership, and refocused priorities/outcomes to better align with the strategic plan. He provided due diligence for the mergers and acquisition integrations that enabled Milstein to become a regional powerhouse of accountable care and advanced care. Tony also has clinical and quality expertise in transplant services, having served on national committees and professional associations. As the VP of Quality & Safety for NYP's multisite operations, Tony held operational management of quality and performance improvement, patient safety, internal consulting, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. He spearheaded the development of Patient Safety Fridays across all five centers that produced significant performance improvements. Tony served as a Black Belt, Performance Excellence/Master Black Belt Clinical Quality & Safety and led system-wide productivity, performance/quality improvement strategies, and Lean/Six Sigma deployments, including initiatives in patient care delivery systems, inpatient flow, cardiology, and postacute care. Tony began his career with NYP in various nursing positions of increasing importance and served as the Clinical Director for the Department of Perioperative Services. A published contributor to multiple healthcare journals, Tony is a relentless bottom-line driver who is adept at capitalizing on business opportunities that support growth, drive operational efficiencies, build brand prestige, and achieve patient care goals. He is a Keynote Speaker, Guest Lecturer and Panel Moderator for national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. Tony is an Administrative Fellow of the GE Fellows Program, holds an MSN, Nursing Administration from Hunter College, and a BSN, Nursing from Columbia University School of Nursing, as well as a Diploma in General & Psychiatric Nursing from St. Michael's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. He has been active in various organ donation and transplantation associations. He is a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
