Bio
Justin Liberman, MD, MPH is an assistant professor of anesthesia and currently serves as the Director of Perioperative Efficiency and Associate Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Liberman became interested in quality improvement while completing his anesthesiology residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. After completing residency in 2016, Dr. Liberman traveled to Nashville Tennessee where he graduated from the Veteran Affairs Quality Scholars Program and obtained his Masters in Public Health in epidemiology from Vanderbilt University. After graduating from his fellowship, Dr. Liberman became an assistant professor in the department of anesthesiology and Associate Director of Quality and Patient Safety. Currently Dr. Liberman chairs the medication safety task force, looking at preventing medication errors in the operating room. Utilizing his background in Lean process improvement and the Virginia Mason Production System, Dr. Liberman also serves as the Director of Perioperative Efficiency in the Vanderbilt Department of perioperative services. Dr. Liberman, along with Tenisha Preston RN, leveraged a "one team" philosophy to refocus Vanderbilt's efforts to improve operational efficiency in the operating rooms. Their first project, improving First Case On Time Starts, has sustained a 20% increase in first case starts since the start of the trial and has increased communication between providers and staff.
