Patricia "Trish" C. Seifert, MSN, RN, CNOR, FAAN, has over 30 years of experience as a perioperative nurse and has participated in the development and implementation of at least four cardiac surgical programs. She has functioned as an RN First Assistant on over 3,000 cardiac surgery procedures. Ms Seifert is a past president of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), past (and first) Lead Coordinator of the Nursing Organizations Alliance (major accomplishment: growing from zero members to 65 plus nursing organizations representing over 500,000 members by end of lead coordinator's term), a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a Virginia Henderson Fellow, and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Ms Seifert is the author of six books, over 90 articles, and 20 chapters on subjects including cardiac surgery (authoring the 1st textbook on the nursing care of patients undergoing cardiac surgery), RN First Assisting, patient safety, crisis management, education, mentoring, working with multiple generations, and leadership. These topics have also been the subject of local, national, and international presentations . Ms Seifert completed a series of articles in the AORN Journal on 'Crisis Considerations' as well as 'Clinical Reasoning' exemplars for AORN's Periop #101 modules. She was a recipient of Inova's 2015 Ronald S. DeVolder Memorial Award for participation in the Cardiac Surgery QI Team Project: 'Patient Handoff from CVOR to CVICU and CVICU to CVSDU; she was a member of the writing group for the 2013 American Heart Association Scientific Statement on Patient Safety in the Cardiac Operating Room: Human Factors and Teamwork. She received the Inova Health System's 2014 award for Service Excellence. Ms Seifert has been recognized by her professional organization, AORN, receiving AORN's first President's Award (1991-1992), the 2003 Award of Excellence, AORN's 2007 Jerry G. Peers Distinguished Service Award, and AORN's 2014 Award for Mentorship. Ms Seifert was an educator in the CVOR of the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, Virginia; she is a past Editor-in-Chief of the AORN Journal. Currently, Ms Seifert is an Independent Cardiac Consultant. She has a Bachelor's of Arts in History from Trinity College in Washington, DC, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale, VA,, and a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.
